Many in the Forensic Video community are familiar with the free multimedia tools Camsort and IMAGE. Their creator, Jimmy Schroering, has published a new consolidated home for these applications, along with other tools that he's developed or may be working on; check it out by visiting www.jdsdevelopment.com
Wrapping up my weekend and feeling pretty good about the things I ticked off my internal, MFT-like to-do list. Implemented SSL encryption for the new LEVA website, integrated Authorize.net secure payment processing on the new LEVA site, and I put the finishing touches on several of the pieces for this week’s DCCTV recovery training in Tacoma, WA.
I probably won’t be posting here much this week, but you can’t shut me up on Facebook and Twitter, because I share to those while reading my news and researching (i.e. always). It is now an instinctual process and, thanks to those of you who occasionally send feedback, one that makes me feel good. No cute animal pics though; I share those to my personal Facebook friends, because animals are cute…but not really related to digital & multimedia evidence.
Okay, done rambling. Hope you had a great weekend my friends, and here’s to another week of doing what we love. Be safe out there. All the best.
The AFMA Board of Directors has recently completed a draft of the Bylaws for the organization. This is available on the AFMA network at http://theafma.ning.com/forum/topics/bylaws-for-the-afma for comment. This draft document will be available for comment for 30 days - any suggestions for updates or additions must be submitted within this timeframe. We ask that if you do submit changes or additions please write them in a form that can be easily amended to the document. For example, a change or addition should be submitted as: “Section 15.2 Any changes or additions will be written in the form of the document.”
Do you use a YubiKey or the Google Authenticator app? The latter is free, and now you can use either of them to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) here at DME Resources.
Simply log-in and choose "Edit Profile" from the Control Panel, then select your preferred method from the drop-down options for "Authentication Method".
Follow the prompts that will be shown to configure, then press the "Update" button displayed at the bottom of the page.
That was easy.
You can find a good printing resolution tutorial by Ben Long at creativepro.com. From the intro: While Facebook, Flickr, email, and other online sources are great ways to show and share photos, at some point you'll probably want to make a print of an image. (For one thing, an archival print is still the most durable way to preserve photos.) Whether you print it yourself using a desktop photo printer, or send your images to an online service, you're going to have to size your image and choose a resolution.
Evidence Technology Magazine has published their May-June, 2010 issue featuring a story on Forensic Video. The story was written by LEVA's Principal Forensic Video Instructor and features several LEVA members. The question you need to answer: Can video evidence be trusted?

The knock on managing Macs in business environments has long been Apple's ambivalent attitude toward providing significant enterprise support. Apple does, of course, offer tools for deploying, configuring, and managing Macs. But to move Macs beyond a departmental setting, IT will often find it necessary to look to third parties for help.
DME stands for Digital & Multimedia Analysis, but it also stands for Digital Multimedia Analysis. They are two separate things.
Digital & Multimedia Analsysis includes all things digital, including multimedia.
Digital Multimedia Analysis is specific to multimedia.
I know what you're thinking..."Thanks, Captain Obvious!" 😄
We announced a major update to Adobe Creative Cloud at our MAX Creativity Conference on May 6th and as we gear up to ship this release of Creative Cloud in a few weeks, we’d like to update the community on the feedback we’ve been getting.
It's after 4:00 am in the morning and I'm writing about codecs. That isn't right. Just curious what lossless video codecs others are using or have used and/or compared for forensic screen capture? I'm sure the most common answer will be TechSmith's TSCC, but there are others out there that work quite nicely and are priced just right....FREE.
I posted a new member poll on the topic, which you'll find on the right-hand side of your profile page. Also recently added the free LZO and GZIP based CamStudio codec to our files & downloads library and have been fiddling with some others. Are you using something else, or do you prefer to keep all captures uncompressed?
"I feel so lucky to get to be the person to thank you..., on behalf of a world of people seeking free knowledge." - Wikipedia Executive Director
I donated to Wikipedia again today as they're in the middle of another fundraiser. They're an independent, ad-Free non-profit. No sleezy marketing, covert data collection, persuasive technologies to get or keep you, etc. Very similar to what I've always tried to do with my websites and resources online.
