Photoshop Express BETA

Abobe's Photoshop Express(BETA) was made available in late March, but I just haven't had the time to fiddle with it. I was poking around the Adobe site earlier today (avoiding my to-do list like the plague) and finally decided to give it a whirl. I intended to spend a few minutes checking it out. I ended up spending a few hours playing with it and completely blowing off my to-do list for the afternoon. I hate it when that happens.

Photoshop Express is another Rich Internet Application (RIA) that, to me, shouts Software as a Service (SaaS) is unquestionably the future of software delivery. Sure many RIA's today have limited capability (or more bugs than your average road kill on a warm summer day), but the fact of the matter is SaaS is in its infancy.

Adobe has certainly done more than just get their feet wet in this area. Flex and AIRare leading the way in RIA development and desktop integration.

Google is, of course, as Stan Lee would say, "A true believer." Just look at all of the services and capability they're currently providing, including their own photo editing, cataloging, and sharing software PICASA.

PICASA 3 BETA is pretty slick, and in my opinion provides a better interface for editing. With that said, I'm not a fan of the way PICASA "organizes" photos; just seems overly convoluted.

Photoshop Express wasn't designed as an asset management system so I'm sort of comparing apples to oranges, but at least digressing has kept me away from my to-do list for another 5-10 minutes. LOL

If all you're looking for is basic photo editing capability and an easy way to share your photos and albums online, either of these two freebies will do the trick quite nicely. Personally, I like the basic editing features/GUI in PICASA 3 BETA, and the album and sharing features in Photoshop Express BETA. While PS Express does provide a way to connect with and use your PICASA Web albums, that feature has only worked occasionally for me so far...and unfortunately, I really do need to get back to my to-do list.
