Earlier this year I launched the DME Resources Scholarship with only the best of intentions, hoping to help those interested in pursuing a career in Digital & Multimedia Evidence. At the time I was also unknowingly experiencing manic episodes brought on by a prescription medication, one that was prescribed by my doctor a few months earlier to assist with my lifelong anxiety related issues.
This was the very first time I’ve taken a prescription medication regularly, as I’ve always tried to deal with my anxiety and health issues through diet, exercise, and natural treatments such as CBD. Both my doctor and I were initially very happy with the results after 3 months; however, it soon became clear to those around me that things weren’t as good as they seemed to me.
Those that followed my posts and podcast releases during that period earlier this year were surely alarmed by some of my brutally frank, grandiose and/or delusional statements. I also began to withdraw from social media, deleting my accounts with LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. I did not do this to alienate anyone, but rather in an effort to streamline how I interact with those connected with me or interested in my two cents on various topics.
At the request of my family, I returned to my doctor with them, feeling confident that I was doing better than ever. The doctor agreed with my family, and recommended I immediately go to the emergency room. That led to my first ever hospitalization, where they discontinued the anxiety medication immediately and began treating me for bipolar disorder, brought on by the medication prescribed to help my anxiety.
Through all of this I have learned a great deal about myself and those that truly care about me. Unfortunately, I have also alienated some of the people that I truly care about along the way, and for that I sincerely apologize.
I do not know what the future holds, but my focus, finally, is squarely on my family and I’s personal health and wellbeing.
Thank you to all who were or have been concerned for us. We do have our health and each other, which is the most important thing in the world to me.
I have and continue to hope the same for all of you, always. I will be posting an update regarding the scholarship later this month. In the meantime, all the very best to you & yours, my friends.
